Journeyman Mechanic (Automotive Service Technician or Heavy Equipment Technician)

Golden Hills School Division invites applications for a full-time journeyman mechanic (Automotive Service Technician or Heavy Equipment Technician) to join the Transportation Department team at our Trochu bus shop located in Trochu, Alberta.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Perform semi-annual Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program (CVIP) (inspections) per Alberta Commercial Vehicle Safety Regulation (CVSR) and National Safety Code
• Schedule and perform preventative maintenance (oil change, grease, check fluids & tires) in compliance with Division Transportation and Maintenance Program
• Perform mechanical repairs on school buses
• Maintain records for all fleet vehicles
• Perform emergency service calls on school buses
• Source and order parts and maintain shop inventory
• Attend required meetings and training.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of Alberta CVSR and National Safety Codes as it pertains to school buses.
• Ability to work well independently.
• Ability to keep up to date with changing technology.
• Mechanical Aptitude.
• Effective communication skills.
• Efficient record maintenance.
• Demonstrate the physical ability to perform the functions of the job.
• Be able to safely work around moving objects or vehicles.
• Ability to communicate effectively through verbal and written methods.
• Support Divisions Health and Safety program by participating in incident investigations, inspections, demonstrating safe work practices and keeping up to date on policies and procedures.

Educational Qualifications:

• Alberta Journeyman Certificate – Automotive Service Technician or Heavy Equipment Technician
• Alberta Operator’s License (Class 1 or 2 Desired)
